Length

Shaft length of a golf club varies depending on the loft and type of club being measured. Drivers are usually the longest clubs at about 45 inches, while the shortest clubs are wedges measuring around 35.5 inches.

Proper shaft length can significantly influence the direction, consistency and distance of a golf shot. Callaway Golf designs its clubs to fit a wide range of players, but not all players require the same club length. A shorter player may need an under length club while a taller player might benefit from a longer club. However, the most accurate method of fitting shaft length is to use wrist-to-floor measurements.

What effect do length adjustments have?

Length adjustments can be used by a taller or shorter golfer to bring a club back to the proper geometry, giving them the best chance of hitting the ball straight. Some golfers may also prefer to lengthen a club, a driver for example, in order to generate more clubhead speed with the same swing effort. However, this additional clubhead speed usually comes with a loss of some accuracy, since a longer club is often harder to control. The converse is also true. Some players prefer a slightly shorter length to enhance control at the expense of clubhead speed.
